February 2014 – The findings reveal that three-quarters of tradesmen believe the UK is undergoing a crisis in attracting young people into the trade industry, with 2 in 5 attributing this to the country’s focus on securing academic qualifications.

February 2014 – The UK’s leading online marketplace connecting homeowners with recommended local tradesmen, has announced that it has closed a £6.5 million pre-IPO investment round, advised by N+1 Singer. The round comprises of £5.5m of new equity investment co-led by existing investor Frog Capital (“Frog”); along with £1m of venture debt from Silicon Valley-based Western Technology Investment (“WTI”). In conjunction with the pre-IPO investment round, the company has also announced the appointment of Keith Roberts to the board as Senior Non-Executive Director.
January 2014- For January 2014 the Home Improvement Index was up 6% versus previous January 2013, as a result of the large storms that continued to hit the UK post Christmas. The Project Budgets showed their usual spike in January as big projects are undertaken in the New Year.
December 2013 – The Home Improvement Index was up 63% compared to December 2012, as a result of the series of large storms that hit the UK over the Christmas period. The Project Budgets continued their decline, however the budget should show a seasonal rise in the new year.
November 2013 – The UK’s home improvement budgets are down by 9% from last year, according to analysis from RatedPeople.com. However, far from abandoning home improvement projects, the online trade recommendation service found that homeowner demand has increased, with 50% more enquiries for home improvement since 2012. This suggests that cash-strapped homeowners are focused on making the changes they want in the most cost-effective way possible.
November 2013 – The impact of the storm that hit the south of the UK in October subsided, leading the Home Improvement Project Index to soften slightly. However, it was still up by 49% versus November 2012. Project Budgets continued to decline as predicted.
October 2013 – The Home Improvement Index was up 52% versus October 2012 and was particularly strong as a result of the St Jude storm. Although the Project Budgets continued to decline, prediction are that we’ll see a slight rise in November, due to storm related damage repairs.

In September, the Home Improvement Project Index was up 50% versus September 2012. The third quarter of 2013 has seen a substantial growth in people undertaking home improvements as well as emergency repair projects, compared to Q3 2012.
