1. Electrical works
As of January 2004, all electrical works must either be carried out by a Part P registered electrician or comply with Part P and be notified to Building Control so that they can carry out a safety inspection of the work.
2. Gas works
If you want a gas cooker, you must get it installed by a Gas Safe registered gas fitter. This also applies to changes in gas ventilation to a kitchen with existing gas appliances. Gas Safe was originally known as C.O.R.G.I but changed to the Gas Safe register in England, Scotland and Wales in 2009.
Safety for cooker hoods
The minimum distance between the underside of your cooker hood and the highest point of your hob is 650mm for electric hobs and 750mm for gas hobs. Make sure you check the fitting instructions from the manufacturer as for some larger hobs this distance can be greater.
