How bad is a cracked lintel above a window? My house is 75 years old

It may not be anything to worry about, the crack may be a result of old movement. These cracks can be filled &/or redecorated. It may also indicate movement of the property / stress on the lintel It is recommended to have it inspected. We cannot comment without seeing the offending lintel! Hi Daniel, I would say that a cracked lintol should be at the very least checked out as it is structural. Nine times out of ten there is very little chance of it falling out as the crack tends to wedge against its self. As the lintol is acting as a support I would recommend replacing it to solve the problem however with out seeing it I can't comment on it any further. Dave
