Rcd wont turn on

Posted by L Martin, on
Good evening. the lights just went off in my house and when i got to the fuse board the switch labelled rcd wont go back on. it feels like the actual switch part has gone floppy and moving it isnt doing anything if you know what i mean. if it is just this rcd switch that is faulty any ball park figures on how much to replace, or is it a new fuseboard? Its a contactum 63A. thanks

Hi L Some RCD switches will stay in the middle position on tripping, you may have to push fully down and then push it back up to reset. Other than that follow advice above to indentify a particular circuit. You may end up having to call an electrician put local to you Thanks Russ

Hi L, It seems there is a fault on one of the circuits. You'll need an electrician to investigate the fault. You can identify on which circuit the problem is if you switch off all the circuit breakers on that particular RCD, then flick up the RCD and then switch the circuit breakers on, one by one. If the RCD trips right after you lift one of the circuit breakers, it means that's the circuit that's causing the issue. Regards,
