Hi David, You MUST leave an expansion gap around the entire floor, especially if it is solid wood, but even with engineered wood, which is less prone to movement and expansion. Generally, the expansion gap needs to be at least 10mm with engineered and 15mm+ with solid wood. Hence, when replacing the skirting boards, this should be on top of the wood and hiding the expansion gap. For doorways, fireplaces etc you can use scotia or beading to hide the gap. But the most important thing is leaving that gap - if you don't your floor will buckle and warp and likely need entirely re-fitting!
Put skirting on top then you can leave small gap round edge for expansion G , branch plastering
Hi David. Im sorry to say that the question you answered does not give confidence of the fitting of the floor.
