"Although Steve is a good plumber, I cannot recommend him to do a bathroom refurbishment. His final bill was significantly more than his initial quote, the standard of tiling was poor, he tried to charge extra for unnecessary work and was clearly fitting the project in around his other work. Examples of each of these points are: he charged £60 for a tile skirting board of total area 0.18 square metre. At his own quoted rate of £25 per square metre this should have been £4.50. I had to call him back to re-grout some areas of tiling, which meant the shower was out of action for a further three days. He tried to charge me to drill a hole in the wall for the toilet I had ordered, but this was unnecessary and I had to correct him. Progress was slow during the working week, he preferred to get most of the work done on a Saturday, arriving at 9am without any advance warning and working until 8pm. At the very least, Steve owes me £55.50 for the price of the tile skirting board. He could have installed a few extra fittings in the bathroom as recompense, but chose not to. He also never got around to sealing the base of the shower plinth, which he said he'd do."
