Property renovation in Inverness Millburn
"I would not recommend this builder to anyone. He never answers his phone, he never returns calls, At one stage myself, my partner and my loss adjustor were leaving daily messages for him to return our calls so we could clear up a query with his quote, we evntually got hold of him when we threatened to sack him and go with another builder. We met up again for him to measure the job, he informed us he would start the job the following wed, he never showed up, and never called us to explain why he hadnt started the job. We again tried calling him daily for a week, leaving messages, text mesaages and speaking to his wife who said to us, "he's on the other line I will get him to call you back", but he nevr did. From Tuesday 29th Sept 09 to Mon 5th Oct 09 we tried several times a day on all 3 of his numbers to get hold of him. Eventually on mon evening we called again and left a message saying he was sacked from the job. We followed that up with an email and recieved an email back later that day stating the following :- "Thank you for your email and we are happy that you have decided to go with another contractor if that is what you have decided, the delay in starting this job was down to us attempting to gain validity of your claim and try to find out just what your insurance was going to pay for, the turf you requested for down the side of the property along with the shrubs you had ordered were not on any paper work we dealt with, also the change of material for the door along with the design, we have been informed this will need approval from highland council and also from the housing association, we were in the middle of this but have now informed them along with your insurance that we now have nothing to do with this claim or any further works involved with it." We were deeply upset by this email because it was all lies and was his intention was to instill fear into us. I contacted the Insurance company, the Higland Council and the Housing assocation and was informed by all of them they had, had no such dealings or any contact with Mr Finlay McLeod and his company AMAC Joinery and Building. As for the points he raised about the turf, shrubs and the change in design to our door, An email was sent to him on the 25th Sept from both myself and the insurance company detailing that all the works had been authorised. But if he was still in any doubt, had he simply returned one of our calls he would've been able to discuss this with us. Also had he returned our calls and discussed it with us he would know that we didn't change the design of the door, so there was nothing to query with Highland Council and the housing Association, had that been the case ( not that they would discuss any of this with the Builder anyway as I am the private owner of the property , also How would they know which builder was carrying out the works as I've never had a call from anyone highlighing concerns over the door design, so how would they know which builder to contact? If anyone else is recommended this builder, I strongly urge you not to go with him, don't get me wrong on our first meeting with him, we were very pleased with his approach, he was very informative and we liked him, hence why we gave him the job, but once he had the job secured, all his customer service went out of the window and he moved on to securing his next job with no regard to the stress he was putting us through. And now to add insult to injury he has told us a pack of lies about why the work wasn't started. You'll also note from his email that there was not one apology for not returning our calls!! Trust us, if you want a reliable builder, do not used AMAC Joinery and Building!! "
