Property renovation in Jericho and Osney
"Unfortunately (aside from his plasterers, who were lovely) I was very disappointed by this tradesperson and his team. The job expanded into something bigger and he gave me a higher quote (which was absolutely fine). In summary what happened was he came in, said the work would take 6 days, ripped the house apart, then abandoned us to live in rubble for months. Whilst admittedly we initially had a little difficulty getting some fittings, the main issue seemed to be his subcontractors, over whom he had little or no control. Whilst some came - others would set dates and not turn up for weeks. Then if they did turn up, it would be for a day or half a day at a time when the work required much longer than that. The last we heard from them was in May, when we paid a further 1K on account of work to be done while we were on holiday. We went away - and returned faintly optimistic that perhaps the work would be finished. However we found that barely anything had been done. There was still dust and rubble everywhere, the bathroom was only half plumbed in (the bathwaste wasn't fitted, there was still a bucket underneath the sink!), there were still giant holes in the floor and ceiling, the cupboards still weren't even remotely aligned with the wall and the bodge job they had done fitting a couple of light fittings would have to be seen to be believed. Eventually we had to get other builders in to undo half the work, then finish it off for us (incidentally they 'tutted' a lot about the quality of the work they were having to undo). Incredibly disappointing. I think the moral is, if you're going to use this tradesperson, don't use his plumber, his electrician or his joiner, set clear dates and boundaries, remain on site to project manage him and don't pay a penny until the work is done to your satisfaction."
