"No spare keys back still after quite a few reminders and a few promises to put them through my door - plus the extra varnish for worktop. "

"I had my kitchen redone with the exception of the cupboards which were kept; so a plasterboard wall to the alcove was knocked down and plastered, new wooden worktop installed, new appliances plumbed in, new lighting, new sink, floor tiling and tiling around window and hob, with some woodwork. I am pleased with the job - they have done it to a good standard with a nice finish. Martin got some of the materials for me, all of which i was pleased with, particularly the worktop. Adaptable to change as went along, for example the boiler was to be boxed in but this didn't look good in the end so was undone.
Thought it was good value, out of the 3 quotes it was at the higher end but I chose this one because Martin came across best in terms of knowing what i wanted, seemed confident in working with the materials I had chosen and ideas about how it was to be done.
The job was scheduled to be done in one week - Monday to Friday. Considering there wasn't any huge jobs just a series of smaller ones Martin was confident that this would happen. Deliveries of appliances were being made on the Thursday which originally seemed okay with him, though some tiles which were meant to arrive on the Tuesday didn't arrive til Thursday. I was expecting the workmen to be in each day, as originally said at 830 each morning. This only happened on the Monday and another half day was done mid-week so by the time all the deliveries were made there was so much still to be done it was obviously not going to be finished by the end of Friday. Scheduling deliveries was stressful as no-one was there when I was expecting them to be there but worked out in end. I was on holiday the second week so it was agreed they'd use this week to complete the job. This week it seemed they only did one full day on the Wednesday so when I arrived home on the Sunday it was a complete mess and no appliances were in operation. This was frustrating especially as I'd had no warning that it was not completed even when I'd asked. The third week they were in every day Tuesday to Friday full days and then some finishing odd jobs on the Sat and Sun. So in the end there was quite a lot of work to do before the final tiling which was done on the Friday, though this had been used as a reason for the delay a few times because of a question over the colour of the grouting.
I think there could be improvements to communication with the client and be a bit more upfront with what was being done each day or week and more realistic feedback when asked about the state of play. I would rather be told that the work would probably not be done today than hear nothing and come back to no progress, and think it's important to reassure the client when no progress has been made. Martin obviously is managing plenty of jobs at once and I found it annoying that my job wasn't being prioritised especially by the time it had already gone over the first week. I didn't doubt that the work would be done and to a good standard but the process was stressful and dragged on. However, most importantly to me was the quality of the job and I am pleased with that. We agreed at the start that payment would only be made once everything was finished and I was pleased with it, and this is what happened. The various workmen who worked on my flat - tiler, joiner, plumber, electrician - were all professional and friendly and I trusted with my keys.
*Still got one set of keys to get back."
