Radiator installation and relocation in St Andrews
"I was very pleased with the work I had done. 12 radiators were replaced along with new valves and pipework for all of them. Mr Brown was very tidy with his work, did a neat job and I wouldn't hesitate to use him again."

Oil-fired and gas boiler installation by CORGI / Gas Safe registered engineers. in St Andrews
"Having been very badly let down in the past, whilst having some minor changes made to our heating system, I was very nervous indeed about choosing a contractor to install a replacement system. So, I did A LOT of homework - and have been very well rewarded for my efforts.
One thing which particularly struck me about this firm was a comment on the web site - i.e.: Our business is best described as being large enough to cope, but small enough to care. These are not empty words, a fact which D (the Proprietor) demonstrated from start to finish.
D was the last tradesperson my wife and I consulted for advice, so we already had a lot of (conflicting) information at our disposal when we first met him. Before suggesting possible solutions, D did an extremely thorough inspection of our existing system. He discussed his recommendations with us, at quite some length, and invested a considerable amount of his time listening to - and, more importantly, responding to - our views.
After a number of telephone conversations, exploring possible options and ironing out the details, D provided written specifications and quotations. Once my wife and I had considered these, D visited us again - to ensure we knew exactly what to expect. Only one question remained - Although my extensive homework had enabled me to ask a lot of questions (too many??) - and assess the reliability of the answers - my wife and I were still uncertain about what exactly was required to ensure full compliance with the Part P Building Regulations which were implemented in 2005. The information available on the internet (including information available via government and local authority web sites) appeared to be very much open to interpretation. D put our mind at rest, by undertaking to have his work inspected by a Part P registered electrician - which he did at no additional cost to us, even though he considered this to be an unnecessary precaution for the work we required.
The three of us agreed that the whole of our central heating and hot water system would be replaced, with the exception of the downstairs pipe-work and a couple of radiators. We all agreed that replacement of these components would be unnecessarily expensive and - more significantly from our perspective - unnecessarily disruptive. As some of the other contractors we had consulted seemed to pay no more than lip-service to our opinions, speaking with D was very refreshing indeed.
NOTE: The above criticisms do NOT apply to any of the contractors recommended via this web site.
Having agreed our requirements, D said that he expected to complete the work in 3 days. This seemed very optimistic indeed - even after he had made an early start, with two other men, on the day promised. By 5 p.m. on Day 2, my wife and I had resigned ourselves to AT LEAST two more days. However, D was right and we were wrong!! He and his team worked (HARD!!) for around thirteen hours that day and we were amazed by the amount of work completed - particularly during the final 3 hours or so.
Even though D arrived alone on the final day, because the man he had booked to help him was unable to work, the installation was still completed around tea-time on Day 3 - much to our surprise.
This was a substantial piece of work, which was not without some snags. D and his team were professional, cheerful and friendly throughout - taking every obstacle (including me - I was a VERY inquisitive customer!!) in their stride. Furthermore, all the work was very well planned, which minimised the disruption to our family.
Having read the small print in quotations provided by larger contractors, I expected to be left with quite a bit of making good to do myself, after completion of the work. I was very pleasantly surprised - even some unavoidable damage to the external rendering, which I expected to be (at best) patched up, was finished to a very high standard indeed. From start to finish, the quality of workmanship and the efficiency with which the work was undertaken far exceeded our expectations.
Having been let down so badly in the past, my wife and I were tempted to spend quite a lot more money for the apparent security offered by a large, national organisation. Thankfully, we resisted that temptation and chose this firm - based on our assumption that a man who had paid so much attention to detail when considering our requirements, would be equally conscientious when doing the work. He was!! You do not have to worry about the small print with this firm - partly because there is none and partly because D appears to be willing to do whatever it takes to ensure customer satisfaction.
D, I am sorry it has taken me almost 6 months to get around to rating your work. I kept putting it off, knowing that I could not hope to do justice to your efforts without investing quite a lot of my own time, in return. However, on the positive side, I am writing this in a very warm office on a cold winter day, so these comments are not based on our first impressions alone. We can honestly say that this is our cosiest winter in 19 years - i.e., since we moved into this house. Money well spent!!!
Thanks D - you have restored our faith in your profession. We are delighted with the boiler you recommended - and we are confident that you have done everything possible to provide us with a reliable system, for many years to come. It would seem that there are some very difficult times ahead, especially for self-employed people such as yourself, but you deserve to prosper and we sincerely hope that you do.
In conclusion, we believe that large enough to cope, but small enough to care is, indeed, a reliable description of your firm. Thanks again for all your efforts."
