Kitchen installation in Pelaw and Gilesgate
"UPDATE: This person is a really likeable person who stayed calm despite dealing with my perfectionaist character! There were aspects of Bips work that were truly value for money such as moving a gas pipe and putting in sockets and the laying of the kitchen laminate floor all included in price for doing the kitchen - on the surface it is value for money if you just want the kitchen putting in to be funtional. However - despite him obviously wanting to get it perfect for you, and despite all his best efforts which he gave (he takes pride in his work) sadly there were some minor mis-measurements that could have been avoided with further planning (wall untis could have been moved more to one side to allow equal spare space at each side for plynths/corner fillers - which now can not be put in as the gap is too wide on one side. There was also one fairly major mis-measurement down in part to the the origional plan but mainly due to him not re-measuring to ensure it would all come togher and then screwing in a base unit hastily as he had already had to move it once - this was the corner sink base units with corner coving) - there ended up being a large gap left between the corner bse untis and the corner filler usually there to hide an inevitable gap but was not able to cover the entire gap as gap was too big due to mis-measurement - meaning I was left with the choice of either taking the entire corner joined worktop out (with ceramic sink already in and sealed) or to cut holes in the back of my base cupboard to access the screws to unscrew the misplaced base to then move it further into the corner to get rid of the gap). Bips is used to working with one comapnies worktops and units - I think the style and measurements of another companies products has caused him some puzzling moments. Also - I have three seperate worktops and each on of them has been chipped on the corners and we have had to use colourfill to hide chips - apparrantly this is because it is a gloss worktop rather than him not being careful - who knows!? A flexible approach to time is needed with him as sometimes he can work until a certain time and will do over and above the agreed stop time (leaving here gone 7.30pm on one night!) but this commitment is dampend as he can turn up 20-40mins late and then tell you he is leaving early i.e. supposed to work until 2pm but left at 1pm having only started at 10.30am. So the time it is taking has been long drawn out. The overall look of kitchen he has done well with - but there are large gaps from the worktop to the walls (apparrantly due to the shape of my walls rather than mis-measurement - who knows?!) so now in some places tiles to sit on the worktop to go up the wall (i.e. splash back tiles) will not hide the entire gaps and I have had to look at other alternatives such as L-shaped metal strips to cover the gaps and then put tiles on top of it - but the metal strip would still show. Also - he did a wonderful job with the corner worktop join - commendable indeed - I was really happy with the skill and time it took him - however, the sink did leak and though he said he had noticed it - he had not mentioned it to me that day and the next day I woke to find the new cupboard had a large pool of water in it! He fixed it once I had pointed it out. Though mistakes have been made, and there are some chips - He does stick around to offer time and solutions to these things - he is not a cowboy by a long measure and will not take your money and run - but he does make genuine mistakes despite his best efforts. I would call him again for straightforward jobs but would hesitate to call him for intricate jobs that demanded precise measuring. Value for money if you are needing a funtional kitchen - but if you have spent alot of money on your ktichen to start with - and want it perfect - I would hesitate to call or at least I would ensure I was present most of the time to point things out before they go wrong.

"I have now had to bring in another company to recify the many basic mistakes this person made. I am only sorry I placed my trust in this person. Though his intentions were genuine - the person does not know even the basics of kitchen fitting. Electrical work was fine and pipe work fine ... but draws and units not level, not flush with wall, not properly bracketed, oven extracter not put in correctly, corner join had 2 inch gap, plynths not fitted correectly, oven housing panel was placed on top of oven instead of under it meaning you had to bend to the floor to reach oven - gaps in work tops that tiles will not cover (now have to build tile adhesive out to remove the gap or else replaster walls) - two companies have come out now and both were in a state of disbelief at the short cuts and lack of basic knowledge and skill involved. I can not with a conscience recommend this person at all. "

"To anyone reading this ... Bips has been an absolute god send! I was disappointed after a year of saving up to find that when i had bought my ktichen - I could not afford the prices being quoted to me for fitting them. The kitchen has now been sat in my flat pack since April and I was nearly ready to take it back and put it down to a pipe dream. However, on a last minute effort i came on here and Bips responded. I did wonder about his skill level that he would do it for 500 - but most fears were gone once I had met him when he came to have a nosey at the job. He was clean, professional, reliable and listened to what i wanted even if it made the job more awkward he wants to get it just as you want it. When he came to work he was thorough, tidied up after him and was so flexible I couldnt believe - I messed him about a bit due to a mix up with flooring and the job turned out a bit more than he bargained for as a pipe needed moving and a new socket needed going in - but never once did he mind - he was patient and professional at all times and managed to overcome all unexpected turn ups! The units are currently nearly in and my floor is now down - he works hard, is thorough and I would not hesitate to recommend him - he is definiately value for cost :-) If you have any doubts and would like to see his handy work - feel free to ask Bips for my number and you can have a nosey or just ask questions.
