Loft conversion specialists
Create space with a loft conversion
If you don't need the extra storage space it may be a great idea to clear out your loft and create a further bedroom or living space with a loft conversion. Loft conversions are popular so there are now many loft conversion specialists who will convert your loft efficiently and cost effectively.
Loft conversion planning permission
To convert a loft you will need to check if you need planning permission - a local qualified builder or loft conversion specialist will be able to help you with this as it planning permission rules vary depending on your location and circumstances.
Alternatively you can deal with the planning permission yourself by getting in touch with your local authority planning office.
Maximise your loft's potential
You'll need to work out what space is available to you, what changes will need to be made and how you access the loft properly. Either an architect or an experienced loft conversion specialist will be able to maximise your loft's potential and give you the loft conversion you want.
If your loft isn't big enough for what you need then a loft conversion specialist may be able to suggest ways to create a loft extension. It may be as simple as creating a dormer window to create more head height, or building out onto a flat roof. But again, you may be restricted on how you can extend your loft due to planning permission constraints.

Loft conversions
If you need to create an extra room in your home to cater for the demands of a growing family, or simply want to create a home study or games room, loft conversions are a cost-effective and practical solution. They’re also a great alternative to having to move to a larger property - if you have the space going to waste, why not utilise it with a loft conversion?
A short guide to loft conversions
As well creating additional living space within your home, a loft conversion can significantly increase the resale value of your house.
Before beginning you should first check that your loft is suitable. This will depend largely on the amount of headroom available - if there is around 2.3 meters between the floor and the apex then you should be alright to go ahead. Most loft conversion specialists will be happy to help you ascertain whether your loft is suitable.
Loft extensions often do not require planning permission, provided that your home is not a listed building or within a heritage conservation area. However, building regulations must be adhered to in the design and construction of any loft extensions, and once again, this is something that loft conversion specialists can help you with.
Types of Loft Conversion
Loft conversion prices can vary greatly, as can the level of skill with which they are carried out, so it’s wise to shop around. You should also think about the type of loft conversion you want.
There are three main types of loft conversions:
- Dormer - When the original loft is lacking in space, an additional protruding section, or dormer, is often added.
- Mansard - Using less conspicuous additions for loft windows, mansard loft conversions are often used when planning permission is harder to obtain.
- Velux/ rooflight - This type of conversion is suitable for lofts which already have plenty of space, and leaves the roof line unchanged.
