"It started off well. The owner came over on a Wed or thurs, gave me a quote I liked and said ok immediately. The price was confirmed in an email and I delivered a check by monday. In the quote it said that if they finished earlier than 5 days, I would not pay for the extra time, roughtly about 300 per day. Bonus! Then it went all wrong. A worker showed up on Mon. without appropriate tools. He was using my angle grinder when I showed up and then reverted to a hammer and a chisel to break up the ground when a breaker was told would be used. I was told my ladder was dangerous but he used it anyway because he didn't have his own. The owner was supposed to show up at 10am to collect my check but he never showed and insisted I give it to this other person instead. I was quoted 1690 pounds but he asked for more than 50% which was supposed to account for parts and supplies. These are the same parts which he would have needed to start the job but which had not arrived by 11am and then when a delivery did arrive, only a few parts came. I called the owner and protested about being charged for any "work" for that day as everything seemed so unprofessional and the only thing that had been done was my gully and ground had 2 1/2 inches missing from it and my rainwater downpipe system was partly disconnected. The owner said he wouldnt charge me for that day and I felt better hoping that they'd start fresh with proper tools and professional work habits the next day, it could have been a mistake after all. Well his employee had me sign a timesheet saying it wouldnt reflect on anything and that he knew I wouldnt be charged. Just to prevent misunderstanding, i wrote on the timesheet, client not chargable for hours. Well, the next morning I arrived on site only to find that the owner had come by and returned my check and took whatever few parts had arrived the previous day and left me an email that he in fact decided he wasn't going to finish the work and that I wanted "something for nothing". He left me and I am in process of making an insurance claim against him because of the damage to my property- the rainwater for example is now spilling all over my building and the hole in the ground is in a dangerous place and he didn't even fill it in. All of this is accurately recorded in email and available upon request. I really wanted this to work out as we had a great start and I still really need the work done, but sadly, either through incompetence or misfortune or some other scheme I may have stumbled upon, it did not.ã??I caution anyone else considering using this company that you may have trainees, or excessively slow or work ethic compromised persons arrive on site without supervision or proper tools so please try to get a method statement from all prospective suppliers."
