There are a wide variety of tradesmen in the UK. Each has his or her own area of skills and expertise, and will often have qualifications and certificates to prove their abilities and status as trusted tradesmen.
The skills and prices of such specialists can vary greatly, even within your local area, so it’s best to get a variety of tradesmen quotes before making your final decision. Also look out for recommendations from satisfied customers, as this can be just as important as the price you pay.
Types of tradesmen
Tradesmen can be grouped into roughly three categories according to the type of work they carry out:
Maintenance - There are many jobs that need doing around the home periodically which require the services of local tradesmen. If your property is suffering from dry rot or woodworm for example, a timber preservation specialist can repair the damage and prevent further problems. Other types of installation tradesmen specialise in a diverse variety of areas such as fireplaces, computer networks and audio visual installations.
Construction - If you’re planning a major refurbishment of your home or are adding an extension, you might want to recruit the services of reliable tradesmen in your area such as scaffolders, demolition experts and basement conversion specialists.
