• Job Description I am in the process of buying a property and the survey's report has noted this:-
  
  The property has three chimneystacks. Two chimneystacks are located on the side
  elevation of the property.
  Both of these chimneystacks are of brick construction with lead flashings at the
  junction with the external roof covering.
  Both chimneystacks have external brick chimneybreasts. The front chimneystack
  has two clay pots and a TV aerial installed, whilst the rear chimneystack has two
  clay pots installed.
  Slight spalling and deterioration of brickwork was noted to both chimneystacks with
  minor deterioration of pointing also noted.
  Inspection of the interior of the property reveals penetrating damp around the
  chimneybreast within the bedroom area. We would assume that this is due to
  either defective lead flashings at the junction of the chimneystack and roof
  coverings or lack of capping of the chimneystack. We recommend that repairs are
  undertaken to both of these chimneystacks to ensure that this area of the property
  is fully secure and watertight.
  A further single chimneystack is located on the rear outrigger on the party wall with
  the adjoining semi detached property. This chimneystack is of brick construction
  with lead flashings at the junction with the external roof covering. One clay pot is
  installed on this chimneystack. Inspection of this chimneystack reveals spalling
  and deterioration of brickwork with minor deterioration of the mortar pointing. We
  would also recommend that repairs to the flashings of this chimneystack are
  undertaken during any further refurbishment of the two side chimneystacks.
  
  The current owner is claiming to have had the works done, he has produced a handwritten invoice for the works but the company's name stated on the top of the invoice isn't known in google or yell.com which worries me so I would like a roofer to go up and a) check if the works have been done and b) if not give me a qoute on how much it would cost to get fixed.
