Possible Repointing in Shaw

Job description:We live in an end terrace and have suffered from "wet walls" in certain areas of te living room and upstairs in the bedroom. The patches appear isolated and clear up when the weather is dry. We got a few people out to look and basically got messe around. We were told the whole gable end and front needed doing and the chimney, not to mention the gutter need clearing which we knew. Another company came and said just the front needed doing yet we are not suffering any dampness on walls on front of house. Then we had another company have a look and they said that no repointing was needed at all, just that a pipe(think its the overflow) needs cementing in and this is causing the dampness as it is dripping down the cavity wall. We would like more input and advice please on just what we need to do as we are waiting to have our living room redone but cant until this is sorted. As i said earlier i think we definitely need the gutters clearing and the chimney repointing. Thats been the only consitent from all who have quoted.
