Damp problems associated with 2 chimneys in Bramhope

Job description:1930s house; rendered. two chimnies: one capped below roof level the other was capped but now reinstated with wood burner. Damp problems around chimney internally on both floors. Have had water entering both chimnies internally, in one case because of felt damage, in the other case because of inadequate cowl. Both these problems now fixed, but still getting high damp meter readings after over a year -- maybe it just needs longer to dry out? Suspect need membrane then replaster (in bedroom plaster has actually come away from wall). But also getting (and have done for last 12 years) mortar dust coming down inside of both chimnies - it would be great to solve this problem too.
