Damp salts leaching through from old chimney breast to bedroom wall in Chudleigh

Job description:old stone terrace house - old chimney now unused through corner of 1st floor bedroom - some water and brown salts stains coming through to surface of plaster. No obvious sign of slates missing or holes in flashing on roof round chimney - but damp must be getting in somewhere. Only a small area affected - say 12' x 6' Guess that either fitting damp resistant struts with appropriate plasterboard on top - or re-rendering the wall with some damp proof sand & cement mix might be the answer to covering up the damp symptoms - but need the right tradesperson to advise and carry out the work.
