Need to replace my extractor fan in bathroom for a new one. in Fishponds

Job description:Have already bought an extractor fan however it is for a two core feed and the cable that fed the old one is a 3 (live neutral and earth) core. I tried connecting it without connecting the earth and the extractor turns on when the light trip switch is tunred back on. But it wont turn off and doesn't appear to be affected by the light switch being turned on or off. The extractor doesnt have a timer circuit.
