Job description:Aprroximately 1 month ago I posted a request for assistance in solving an erratic -(completely time and day variable ) problem with RCD 'trip outs' . I did not receive any response from LOCAL tradesmen (and 1 'no show' from a phone call !) so did some research of my own to learn a little about possible cause .I have now returned to this website with more specific requirements. My current Control Unit is an out-of date Wylex with 6 circuits protected by simple MCB's. This is connected to a 100amp (WSES 100/2) 30mA RCD with test button. Of course when the RCD trips we lose power to the whole house. Although of course I will listen to advice from whoever is prepared to attend and quote I have provisionally decided to replace the Consumer Unit with one suitable for 8 circuits and install all 6 circuits currently in use with RCBO's. Obviously I would require some iniitial testing to ascertain whether the cause of erratic RCD failure can be EASILY be found, although I still believe a replacement of the old Wylex would be sensible and more in line with modern developments. I am hoping that once the new Consumer Unit with RCBO's is fitted I will at least be able to identify the actual CIRCUIT causing the problem and consider whatever action may be needed. (at least I won't be in fear of the house being plunged into darkness at any time) . I am therefore looking for a response from an experienced Electrician who is prepared to attend and quote for the supply of a suitable Consumer Unit and for the subsequent installation which by definition should include some basic testing which MAY show up the causes of the present fault .
