Kitchen lighting fault in Nelson

Job description:we have 3 halogen spotlights in the kitchen, controlled by one switch. Every time we try to turn it on, it trips the fuse for all the house lighting. This was preceded by a problem where the kitchen lights would turn themselves off apparently at random. However, I thought that this problem was related to fitting a new bulb a few weeks ago, and after removing the new bulb things seemed to go back to normal for a while. The last few days however, we have had the above problem.
