Ive got a patchy garden, not sure if i need to dig it up or repair it with seeds. Dig up weeds and r in Splott

Job description:I have what i think is a small back garden. (manageable size) it is split into two with a path used for the washing line, i want the path removed as i have a swing, slides and garden toys. i want to use the path to extend the patio area to fit table and chairs. path has been loosely placed and easy to remove. I have lots of stingy plants which is restricting where my child can play which i want removed. The grass is very patchy and muddy, glass and roots of trees/plants every where. Not sure if i need to lay new grass or repair it. I am looking for help as i am on a low budget. My partner and i will also get involved with ur instructions.
