My pilot light will not stay on - it goes out when I release the gas control knob in Crossford

Job description:Ideal Mexico 2 - about 18 years old. Working fine until yesterday. Pilot light lights ok as per instructions ie hold gas control knob down and press ignition. hold knob dow for more than 30 seconds but when I release the knob the flame goes out.
