Fix noisy water pipes, banging heard when quickly turning on cold tap in Earls Colne

Job description:When turning on the cold tap at home, loud banging is heard in the pipes (as of the last 2 days). A couple of days before that we started getting a noise when the hot water came on in the morning, sort of spluttering/banging - this seemed to spread to the cold water supply yesterday. Under someone's advice I turned of the main supply and drained all cold taps last night which seemed to solve the problem but since the hot water came back on this morning, the noise is back.
