Damp in old stone cottage in Arbroath East and Lunan

Job description:I have just bought an old cottage. There is damp on the old stone wall, it had a damp proofing course over 20 years ago. There seems to be some confusion as to whether this is rising damp or condensation causing the damp. I would like to address the root cause and fix the damp. There doesnt appear to be any drainage around the outside of the wall that is affected. It is in my living room.
