Paint won't come of newly exposed sandstone stone fire surround and so looking to have it redressed. in Eggleston

Needed: Stoneworker / Stonemason in Eggleston, DL12

Job submitted:Feb 28, 2011

Job description:Stone fire surround is typical of Teesdale where I live. After being covered up with paint and paper for many many years the surround has now been exposed. I have tried Nitromorse to clear the old paint from it, but can only get so much to come off. I have a feeling that it is sandstone and therefore the paint has bled into the stone itself. I think the only way to make it look good again is to get it redressed. The main "beam" is 6ft x 1ft x 6 inches and the sides are 4ft 6in x 5in x 6 inches each. The sides are in better condition than the top in that more paint has come off and doesn't appear to have bled into the stone. These may only need cleaning and not redressing.

Budget:Under £500
