Cutting back a piece of marble surrounding a fireplace. in Pencaitland

Job description:I have a standard fireplace with a marble backing and a wooden mantlepiece (the mantlepiece can be easily unscrewed from the wall and discarded). The house was built in 1992 and I'd say the fire and fireplace were fitted soon after. I'm not keen on the look of the thing... it's a bit big. I'd love it if the marble could be cut back to leave just a small surround round the fire.
