Damp in wall from cracked tiles, wall needs fixing and retiling. in St Clement's

Job description:guys who tiled the room used some dodgy stuff to stick the tiles one. This has started to swell as it got a bit damp somehow. Now the grout has cracked, allowing water in making the problem worse. Wall needs diagnosed as to what went wrong with last lot of tiling, how to fix it and retiled. Should be pretty simple job, the area in question simply is the wall surrounding the bath/shower.
