Fit secondary glazing to four Georgian sash windows in Grade II listed property in Bathford

Needed: Window & Conservatory Specialist in Bathford, BA1

Job submitted:Nov 13, 2009

Job description:[I had to withdraw previous job as adding more details changes the number of quotes requested beyond my control :-( Apologies for any inconvenience.] All four windows at front of house - two ground floor and two first floor. Both ground floor windows are approx same size (about 860x1390mm), as are both first floor windows (about 765x1295mm). Rough measurements taken within existing internal wooden beading surrounds (see photos). Due to listed nature of property existing wooden sash windows need to be left in-situ as is. Experience of working with such windows preferred. For each window I believe a new frame - for the secondary glazing only - needs to be inserted within the existing (internal) window surround. This frame may just replace the existing wooden beading/battons that are fixed within the window surround, immediately behind the moveable sash windows (see photos). This new frame is to hold one or two new panes that make up the secondary glazing. (I assume one is easier in terms of fitting, and would give increased draught protection due to no joins, but may be a problem in terms of weight for handling?, advice needed). I imagine the new frames would be permanently fixed in place. The panes, with necessary surround, would fit into the new frames and ideally should be easily removable for separate storage (eg during Summer months). As it's secondary glazing I'm advised that materials are not a big issue (eg metal or plastic frames) but I will need to get listed building consent (should be a formality - I've spoken to BANES council informally - and other neighbouring properties already have secondary glazing). I've had a second request to add more detail but really don't know what more I can add (without someone visting to see the windows). Please get in touch if you're interested.

Budget:£4,000 - £8,000
