The mortar between the bricks in a section of my garden wall (which is a supporting wall with my neighbour's garden - our house is approximately 5 ft lower) is very soft and crumbling and bits of several bricks are falling away. So I need someone to look at it and tell me if it only needs repointing or rebuilding. I need some advice as to what needs to be done.

One west-facing flank wall of a bungalow with external chimney stack (plain) which needs re-pointing, plus a lead tray 2.4 metres long that needs cutting into the wall above the small window as this is where the water is getting trapped and thus soaking through to inner wall - roof is in very good condition and the inner wall in the loft is dry, but the pointing is 50 years old and life expired. Contractor to us dust extractor device when removing old mortar and due diligence to health and safety practices
