Work required in the loft space of a three bed terraced 1930's house. The loft is accessible by a fitted ladder and has some boarding on the floor, but I would suggest walking along the beams. Previous owner of the house removed beams supporting the roof structure and these have been partially replaced by another previous owner. A structural engineers report has required that "the roof space needs to have the internal collars inserted to improve the overall rigidity; these collars should be 150 x 50 C24 timbers secured horizontally between the opposing purlins. These should be inserted at 1.2m centers". The roof is 5.44m wide and therefore I think we are talking about a maximum of 5 additional beams. We will require the work to be signed off by a structural engineer, or by the local council building control (which we will arrange). This is necessary as the mortgage company require proof of the work being done in order to release retained funds for our mortgage. Thanks. Timing: Within 2 weeks
