I have been troubled with cooking smells from the next door semi for about six months. I strongly suspect it stems from an incident involving my neighbour's shower which was apparently leaking over a period. This brought his kitchen ceiling down suddenly and this involved replacing the ceiling and the bathroom floor. I smell the odours most strongly outside my bathroom door, on the rest of the landing ,down the staircase, in the downstairs hall and into my lounge. I am having to spend an absolute fortune in air fresheners and they don't fully mask the smell. My neighbour is renowned as an uncooperative person and he will not allow another builder into his house to inspect the problem. He is a joiner himself and so he thinks he knows all about buildin, which he doesn't. I have had the kitchen wall dismantled,buildrs foam put in and reassembled but it hasn't cured the problem;the smell, as I said, looks as if it stems from under the bathroom floorboards.I should be more than grateful for any further ideas and to anyone who feels they may be able to help.A plumber told me putting a dense insulation under the floor might do the trick.
