Budget I'm not sure

Job Kitchen/ Dining Room, Hall Landing, Bathroom. All rooms are in fairly good condition. Coat of Emulsion and paint skirting. We will provide paint.

Job 1) kitchen, dining room, family bathroom, wc, utility, hall, stairs - strip walls for plasterer. Then once plastered, repaint walls, ceilings and woodwork. 2) Tiling to kitchen walls 3) Tile splashback to WC

Comment G&D initially responded to the painting quote. However, G&D (Barry) actually performed the carpentry package which was as follows: 1) erect stud wall + 2 doors for utility and wc 2) make 2 no mdf cupboard doors 3) new architrave / skirting through most of the house 4) boxing in pipes 5) replace staircase spindles and handrail. Barry is polite and on time. This is where the good news ends. There are major issues with all of his carpentry work. My house now looks like a bad DIY job. Skirting and architrave have gaps, the stud work does not lie flush with the existing walls, the door openings are too high for the doors and are not level, the staircase handrail was replaced 3 times, there are loads of nails sticking out, the routing on my mdf doors was awful, he did not know how to box in pipes. Almost every piece of wood had to be reworked because Barry does not think about the end result until he gets there. He does not know what a good finish looks like. Even simple boxing around my boiler pipes have been messed up and it is not flush because he did not factor in the width of the mdf when making the frame for the boxing!! He does not advertise carpentry as his skill set, but de did accept this work with a very clear scope of work drawn up by me. He was wrong to accept the work and this shows a huge lack of judgment in his own skills. He was also very disruptive to my plasterer and really slowed him down, as well as mess up some of his work (which I had to pay for â?¦ twice). I did intend for Barry to build a garden wall and lay paving slabs over the path but had to cancel that work as I had lost total confidence in his ability and I could not go through a repeat of the carpentry debacle. Barry expected to spend 3.5 days working in my house and this was in line with other â??realâ?? carpentersâ?? quotes. He spent about 3 weeks. And in fairness to Barry, he worked very hard, but spent 5 times longer than he needed to and still produced a very bad end result. I am very disappointed. Need I say more. Update 1 month after work finished: some doors that were hung are already pulling out of hinges as well as bathroom fittings. Disaster. PATRICK
