Budget Under £500

Job I own a property in Mansel Street whose ground floor is above street level. There is a gate at the foot of the access staircase and railings up the side of the stairase together with a short length dividing me from the adjacent property. The paintwork on the gate has deteriorated badly but that on the railings is in very good condition. I would like everything repainted to a uniformly high standard. I believe that a question follows requesting my estimate of the expected cost. My guestimate may be quite wrong - I thought that's why one requested quotes.

Comment After using the Rated People web-site I was contacted by David of DJ Decorators who offered a visit to provide a quotation within a couple of days – despite the fact that his base is a little distant from my home in Swansea. He arrived promptly and provided a written quotation during his visit. When I contacted him a few days later to offer him the work we agreed a date within about 10 days for starting the job. He is a quiet and courteous man and he arrived as arranged. Although I had little contact with the two young assistants they seemed as pleasant as one could expect. The job was to clean down and paint exterior railings alongside and surrounding an external access staircase together with a badly corroded metal gateway. Unfortunately a very wet afternoon curtailed their visit. It was a period of unsettled weather in June and a further day at the end of the working week was sacrificed to the climate! I was surprised and pleased when David himself arrived unannounced on the (inevitably) balmy Sunday to progress the job which he did with diligence. The team managed to snatch a couple of weather windows in the following days and duly completed a more than satisfactory job. On the basis of my experience I can thoroughly recommend DJ Decorators. Job kitchen - wall paper to be removed, walls made good - plastering required - walls painted. Bathroom - wallpaper and tiles removed, walls plastered and re-tiled and painted. Open to discussion re: who provides materials etc

Comment Although the work Derek carried out was of acceptable quality for the price he was extremely unreliable. Derek did not turn up for two days in the middle of the job, only contacting us late afternoon of the second day, did not turn up at the weekend as agreed and the job took twice as long as he had told us it would! Derek then took almost two weeks to come back to clear all the rubbish as agreed and even then did not take it all leaving us with the additional work and expense to get everything cleared! A very stressful experience. Rebecca
