Reviews of Plasterers & Renderers in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire

Under £100
One living room wall approx 3.8m in length to be skimmed. Channels will be put in for wires for lighting and these will be back filled with base plaster prior to skimming. Wall is currently plastered and painted with coving and skirting in place with two double sockets and one light switch.
Excellent skimming job, prompt, efficient and tidy.

Hopefully a reasonably small job to skim over hole that has been left by a fireplace in a new house (built 2006). The hole as been boarded up ready for the plaster. Also cover up two holes (one pound coin side, one childs fist size) on the landing left by the removal men.
Excellent work carried out, good quality plastering at a very reasonable price. Dan's a nice lad, tidy and knows his stuff. Would definitely use again, especially since it seems a job can be accommodated at anytime of day or evening which is very convenient!

Skim a Wall 6' x 8' containing Inglenook Fireplace (4' x 2' x 3.5') Postcode LS24 9LS
As there were no other quotes for the specific job I needed doing, I decided to use Neil based on his quotation of £200 for 6 hours work plastering. To clarify the job: We have recently had some building work carried out on the fireplace/chimney breast (we've had an inglenook recess built into the wall) and unfortunately the builder did a poor job in getting the two new internal walls straight, they ran off at a slight angle so we needed a plasterer to come in and correct these angles. We also required the actual full wall of the fireplace be re skimmed. A simple and straightforward job and one that Neil said he'd have no trouble doing - Great! Neil came and carried out the work in good time and on initial inspection (when I'd returned home after a hard days work) I was quite impressed. The two walls inside the recess were now running straight, and the external skim work was done to a very smooth finish. However, the next morning I went in to the lounge and saw an immediate fault. The horizontal level of the inglenook (i.e the lintel section) was now running completely off level, by about a third of an inch. Neil has put a new beading in on the horizontal and plastered up to it and also the underside - therefore making it impossible to dispute the original level of the lintel. Having spoken to Neil about this concern, he agreed to come over and inspect. His opinion was that it ran off 'slightly' because the lintel wasn't level before he plastered. He then went on to advise me that it wouldn't look as bad once the plaster had dried (?) and that it was an easy job to remedy by sanding back (bearing in mind I'd have to sand a third of an inch through the metal beading Neil had put in). Before handing Neil his payment of £160 - he offered a £40 reduction if it was a cash payment, I asked Neil if he could come back and finish the job for me if I was unable to do it, he said that was absolutely fine. After a few discussions with my Wife and Son, we all agreed that it is not the job of a customer to correct the mistakes of a professional. I'd just like to mention at this point, irrespective of whether or not the lintel had been off level prior to plastering (we would have noticed this, but its a moot point given Neil has plastered over it) a new beading was fitted and plastered up to. You would think a professional tradesman would realise if something isn't level and correct it instinctively (its no extra work) or at the very least mention it to the customer! The reason I am writing this is for two reasons. The first is that the work in actual fact was not carried out to exacting standards - it was glaringly obvious to the naked eye that the new lintel level was completely wrong. Secondly, and more importantly is the attitude of Neil Broadhead and the way he has dealt with us as customers. Despite having said he would be happy to help if we got stuck, once Neil had received his payment it was very much a case of 'job done' and we were met with feedback such as: "its not worth my time" - "I've done this at a reduced price as it is" - " I wasted fuel coming to pick up my payment" - " I wasn't told to correct the level on the lintel" - "I've never had a complaint in all my years working" etc etc Story short, I've been left with no option but to correct the work myself. Its now completely level. I would never recommend this person to anyone simply based on his complete unwillingness to act on his word. He was paid in good faith, but then quickly changed his tune and we were left to correct his mistake. Its left yet another bitter taste in our mouth for (apparently) 'professional' tradesmen. A word of warning, never ever pay anyone a penny until you are 100% happy with every single detail. Good luck!

Stairs and lower and upper hallways need walls and ceilings skimming with 5 small areas of repair needed where dog has chewed... Stairs go round to form a 3-sided square. High ceilings - 9 ft from floor but guessing, 12-16ft probably at higheston stairwell. Bedroom essentially square but with chimney breast. One square alcove and one arched.
Easy to contact. Friendly. Some difficulty finishing only because we had to have more work done than we first thought but he kept in contact with us to arrange everything. No complaints. Would ask him to do more work if we needed it.
