To plaster a ceiling and re rendering wall of garage
Quarr Builders contacted me soon after putting my request on the rated people site and arranged a suitable time to come and give a quote. On inspection of the work and discussion with myself they provided a signed quote for job. There were two parts to the job - plastering a ceiling and rendering an outside garage wall. I was able to compare costs with another builder, but in particular chose Quarr Builders because of their professional approach, friendly manner and I felt they had a better grasp of want I wanted. The standard of the work was excellent and they provided advice on how to apply finishes to the work. They very kindly removed a metal rail for me and put a bit of cement in the hole which they did for me as a favour. They carried out the work efficiently and on time to the agreed price, I have no hesitation in recommending them.

3 rooms. 1 repair ?and skim 12x12 approx 1 skim 1 plasterboard and skim 2m +?
Andy proved to be very hardworking and did an excellent job. Unlike other tradesmen I have had in the house he was unintrusive, friendly and a pleasure to have around. I was happy to give him a key to the house and he respected my home. Andy removed all rubbish and hoovered more than the area worked in. I totally recommend him and he is currently doing further work for me for which he organised the scaffolding with a company which was £300 cheaper than one I asked for a quote. I would contact him first if I have any further work that needs doing. I am Disabled person and vouch for both his work and honesty.

Lime rendering new garden walls approx 44m2 staright panels 1M tall 11 M2 curved panels as spec below B465 LIME:SAND RENDERING Sand: ‘sharp’ sand to BS EN 13139 Undercoat mix: Hydraulic lime 1:3 Thickness: 10mm Top coat mix: Hydraulic lime 1:3 Thickness: 8mm Surface finish: Sponged to bring out aggregate. Allow base coat to cure thoroughly before applying top coat. Ensure backgrounds are suitable. Do not apply render on a surface in direct bright sunlight. Do not apply render in air temperatures of 5°C or lower. Dubb out surface of wall, filling hollows and voids to ensure that the backing coat can be of regular thickness. Apply the backing coat initially as a thin coat firmly worked onto background and then bring to full thickness. Scratch the surface immediately to provide a mechanical key for the next coat. Do not return and re-work the surface. Allow the preceeding coat to harden sufficiently to resist the gentle pressure of a thumb. This will take 1 to 3 days depending on the temperature. Thoroughly damp down the surface again before applying the next coat. Provide a mechanical key for each subsequent coat. Where the penultimate coat retains some of its water, evenly hand-cast a final coat. Bunching of material should not be spread but removed and rethrown. When the final coat is green hand rub it over with a block of softwood with a thorough circular motion to remove sharp projections etc. Protect each application of render from drying out with a double layer of hessian frequently damped down. If there is a drying wind cover hessian with polythene sheeting to retain moisture. The render should be kept constantly damp until the hydraulic set is complete (approx. 7 days) and thereafter damped down to assist carbonation as a putty lime mortar (cyclic wetting and drying). The application of water directly onto the surface of the render should be limited as this may result in lime bloom. The render should be protected to retain its own moisture and moisture in the structure (from the initial wetting down) and the hessian re-wetted as necessary.

Private householder in Yeovil ( Lyde Road ) 2.3m x 2.3m area if internal plaster work in 1st floor master bedroom of a 60's/70's built house requires re-skimming as previous layer had become unbonded to base coat in places ( not plaster board ). Top layer of plaster already removed, base layer appears sound, though it looks as if the preperation for the previous skim coat was insufficient so some remeadial work may be needed.
