"I have been asked by Rated People to summarise my feedback to the contractor from the numerous previous messages I have posted regarding my dissatisfaction of the work done by this contractor on my roof repair. I will therefeore try to keep it brief and factual. The work neither started or completed on time as per the original agreement. The work done did not conform to the original specification. A staged payment upon part completion and final, full payment was made after the assurances of completion were given.The sealing of the roof was not completed, nor was the dry ridge roof system which was also part of the original specification. Another item of work agreed did not get completed, despite assurances being given that it had. 3 return visits were made with only 1 of the three original defects being fixed. The contractor had earlier made claims that the roof needed fully re-tiling at a significant additional cost to me that were unfounded. During the work on the roof, the gas flue pipe had become dislodged from its connection within the loft. This problem was fortunately spotted by a gas fitter who had been called in to investigate poor gas fire combustion and possible carbon monoxide poisoning affecting my wife. We were informed that the carbon monoxide poisoning could have been fatal if we had been exposed to it for 3 hours or more. The defects were then corrected at my own expense with verbal and written (in a message on this site) that I would be reimbursed the cost. That was over a week ago and I still haven't heard anything. There have been consistent problems in contacting this contractor for remedial work via his business telephone, mobile telephone and his website with the exception of through the Rated People ratings system. I would not employ him again. I would also recommend that people heed the good advice given by the Trading Standards regarding hiring strangers without a company address on the business card etc and follow advice from the Federation of Master Trades and Craftsmen (who this contractor belongs to) on "how to spot and avoid cowboys"."
