Updated : I've moved the budget up and keen to discuss options. Original : We are renovating our property in Warriston Avenue, EH3, and would like to add under-floor insulation across the house. There is crawl space (ranging from a couple of feet to almost standing height) under the floor and access from every room but it is likely a slightly awkward job in some areas. The floor spaces are: Living Room: 16 square metres Bedroom 1: 12 square metres Bedroom 2: 10 square metres Dining Room: 13 square metres Hall: 5 square metres Bathroom: 4 square metres We have not bought insulation so would be great if someone could provide it, or at least give an indication as to what we need to buy. We are hoping to complete this work over the next 2-3 weeks before we install carpets / sand floors. Many thanks! Neil

Damp patch appeared above skirting board in living room. This has got progressively larger in recent months. The wall backs up to an adjacent property in this terraced cottage (100 years old), so not sure if this would be a blocked a drain issue. No evidence of moisture damage to laminate flooring at this stage. I would think it may need a damp course treatment with the injection of silicone into a series of drilled holes.

I recently moved into a top floor 1930s flat in Edinburgh and have found we get substantial airborne noise coming up from the neighbours below. It's more than you'd expect in that we can hear their conversations, television and of course any music they play. They're not being noisy but the sound seems to be travelling up to us. This is, I assume, coming through the floor due to insufficient, outdated or perhaps just missing sound proofing under the floorboards. Perhaps due to workmen taking out the old insulation to do plumbing / gas work and not replacing it? I could be wrong but this is all I can assume. Would you be able to diagnose and quote for the work required to restore the flat's sound proofing? The issue seems to run across the entire floorspan of the flat but it's really affecting us most in two rooms: the living room (19'1'' x 14'5'') and the main bedroom (14'6'' x 10'8''). It's suspended timber flooring throughout.
