Updated : Standing in front of the large piece described below and looking out to over the breakfast bar, there is a joint at the left which follows the line of the bottom of the U, so no need to cut here. Original : We plan to alter a kitchen while keeping and reusing some of the existing granite worktop. We have a U-shaped worktop which, along 1 edge, extends to form a breakfast bar (1100 deep x 1400 wide) into an old conservatory. The scheme is to take our kitchen out into a new conservatory which is currently being installed. The breakfast bar will be removed to form a walkthrough access.The stonework job will include removing a (roughly) 'L'-shaped top 2770 x 600, with the bottom of the L ± 1100mm x 1400. There is a 400 x 300 sink cut-out in the 600mm section. The plan is, if possible, to re-use this large chunk of stone to produce an island and a length of top. The adjacent tops will not be changed. There is no firm budget set yet: we want the new arrangement to look special but want to avoid replacing all the tops if we can - amaze us! I can provide a sketch by email if you are interested.
