Needed just the floor tilling done out in the shed, but ended up getting the wall done and a new door put it. Done an excellent job within the budget and the time frame. I know who to contact when more work needs be done in the future.. Uk Safe Electricians.
60x40 travertine tiles onto bathroom walls, approx 25 sq m
"The tile specialists" title, as this company presented themselves is unfortunately not in the best interests of the tiling industry. Whilst initially very pleasant and competitive during the quotation stages, they gradually lost interest when it came to the finishing details and repairing of problems.
The first two days rewarded one promising wall of properly adhered flat travertine tiles and a pleasing shower enclosure. As the contract continued however, they became less and less reliable, sometimes turning up several hours after agreed, and sometimes not at all. As the contract was to be done in stages (the walls were the first, and there was a feature wall and flooring as the second), I parted with the payment for the first stage having only partially inspected the final part of its completion. I had assumed that if there were any problems they could be rectified during the second stage. The contractors naturally agreed to this, and had always been amiable, so I did not think there would be any problems. On my return (I was away, so unavailable to inspect the work fully), I found that as the work had continued, it had got progressively more rushed and the quality become dramatically lower. Uneven spaces between tiles (1mm-6mm variations), uneven depths, and tile corners missing were simple annoyances that gave the tiles an unprofessional finish that they did not deserve, but when an entire wall fell off on top of me, it descended into dangerous. The rush to finish the job (despite me specifically placing no pressure on them to do so), meant that the heavy travertine tiles were not buttered, and not attached to the walls with sufficient adhesive, and on a wall that held 21 tiles, there are now only 2 still attached.
I have contacted the contractors in a polite and pleasant fashion and they have several times scheduled a return to fix the wall and finish, but never turned up, never explained, and mobile phones became quickly switched off around the scheduled appearance time. I am now left with an incomplete bathroom, some once used expensive travertine tiles that now require fully scraping and cleaning before they can be reused (if at all), many tiles that require removal and re-setting, as their current shoddy bedding is either non uniform or dangerously thin, and a lot of wastage. Needless to say, this is not the finish I was expecting when I outlayed nearly a thousand pounds for the tiles and materials beforehand. Upon having a real tiling expert inspect the work, it appears that virtually every rule in the book has been broken for Travertine, and it will cost a lot of money to remove the incorrectly fitted tiles and repair the damage done. There has also been a requirement to purchase more tiles to replace the wasted ones.
To Conclude: If you wish to have a travertine bathroom with one well fitted tiled wall, one nice shower room, one poorly fitted crooked tiled wall, one wall with many large heavy dangerous falling tiles that may seriously injure you, several wasted days waiting for tradesmen who do not turn up or inform you that they are not turning up, and subsequently ignore your phone calls, and a large bill to fix the work, then please contact "The tile specialists".
