This is a relatively small job for a professional tiler with some experience of bathrooms. Timing: work to be completed by mid december (15th December) as my wife is pregnant and the baby is due just before Xmas. Job: remove existing tiles (match to Wickes tile range) for an area approx 3 to 4 m2 above the bath. Evaluate any damage to plasterboard and replace with aqua board (http://www.lafarge-aquaboard.com) Retile with matching tiles and waterproof adhesive and sealant. You can quote for the aquaboarding separately in case plaster is sound underneath (but I doubt it). The room is not that big so this is a probably a one man job. I've indicated a sub £1000 quote but to be honest I would expect this to be in the $300-700 range.
Ripped tiles off leaving shower unusable and then left and refused to answer calls! Am out of pocket by £60 to find a solution until more reliable person can be found. After agreeing to do the work at my property for £400. Nathan Warren from 1 Shot Plumbing turned up, ripped a few tiles of the wall in the shower and went downstairs to park the van with the parking permit I gave him. He came back saying they no longer wanted to do the job (or wanted more money?) because it would be difficult to work around the taps (which he was aware of, because he had seen detailed pictures of the work to be carried out). We discussed the fact that the requirements had not changed. He said he needed to speak to his partner. An hour later he had not returned and neither he or his partner have since answered their mobiles. Am out of pocket by £60 (taxi to get to B&Q + purchasing a second shower curtain and expandable rod to protect the exposed wall and tiles) for a week until replacement tiler can be sourced. My wife is 8 months pregnant (1 shot plumbing knew this) and it isn't very convenient having to use the shower in this way - hopefully she won't slip.
