How to level out a garden
Avoid bumpy lawns with this guide on how to level a garden.

What you need
- Compost / Fertiliser
- Pegs
- String lines
- Hammer
- Garden shovel
- Sand
- Topsoil
- Garden rake
- Water sprinkler
- Water
- Lawn roller
- Vibrator roller
The steps to follow
- Mark out the area you plan to level using pegs and string lines.
- Spread a layer of concrete onto the area.
- Tamp down the concrete with a vibrator roller.
- Next, spread a layer of sand on top of the concrete. The layer of sand should be about 50mm (2in) thick.
- Use a garden rake to evenly spread the layer of sand.
- Mix in topsoil, about 10cm (4in) thick, on top of the layer of sand.
- Spread compost, fertiliser, and topsoil to the surface.
- Level the surface again with a lawn roller.
- Now that the garden is levelled, you can lay your new lawn.
