How to paint wooden floor

If you want to brighten up your room inexpensively, a lick of paint to your wooden floors will do the trick. Find out how to do this by reading our step-by-step guide.

What you need

  • Dust mask
  • Goggles
  • Trim paint brush
  • Small container
  • Paint roller
  • Paint tray
  • Latex floor paint
     

The steps to follow

  1. Make sure that your room is well ventilated and that you keep your windows open.
  2. Sand and prime your floorboard.
  3. If the floor already has a coat of paint, you will need to strip it.
  4. Wash the newly stripped floor with white spirit and let it dry.
  5. Apply a coat of primer to the whole floor before you apply the paint.
  6. Mix the paint with a stick and pour it into a small container.
  7. Cut in the edges with a trim paint brush first. Protect the walls from paint by placing masking tape along the edges where you will cut in.
  8. Pour paint into a paint tray and daub your roller.
  9. Start by painting at the corner furthest from the door.
  10. Apply the paint in the along the floorboard.
  11. Wait for at least 24 hours before applying the second coat of paint.
  12. Seal the floor with 2 or 3 coats of sealer and let it dry.
