Level of difficulty

Level 2: Intermediate

What you need

  • Fine grade sandpaper
  • Dust sheet
  • Putty filler
  • Damp cloth
  • Masking tape
  • Paintbrush
  • Primer
  • Paint

The steps to follow

  1. Remove curtain and curtain rods or blinds.
  2. Cover the floor where you'll be painting the window with dust sheet.
  3. Strip old paint from the window.
  4. Fill any holes with putty filler and wait until it hardens before proceeding to the next step.
  5. Use a fine grade sandpaper to sand the surface. Sand the surface until it's smooth.
  6. Clean the surface with a damp cloth to rid it of dust.
  7. Use masking tape to protect the edges of the glass pane.
  8. Now that the preparation is complete, you can start painting your window.
  9. For new windows, you'll need to apply a coat of primer.
  10. Next, paint the window with your chosen colour. Apply an even coat in the direction of the wood grain. Repeat this procedure for a second layer.
  11. Remove the masking tape when the paint has dried.
