How to install double glazing

What you need

  • Panel framing moulds
  • Draught-proofing strips
  • Sliding panels
  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Hinges
  • Catches
  • Power drill
  • Soft-faced hammer
  • Screwdriver
  • Spirit level

The steps to follow

  1. Measure your window and the panel tracks.
  2. Purchase a ready-made double glazed window or get one custom-made by your local glazier.
  3. Locate the gaskets on the glass edges and tap the panel framing moulds into place.
  4. Make sure that the draught-proofing strips are aligned.
  5. Fit the sliding panels into the tracks.
  6. Mark the fixing position for the hinges and catches of a panel.
  7. Drill holes and screw the hinges to the window frame.
  8. Fit and secure the panels to the window frame.
