External walls

You won't need planning permission for any repairs, maintenance or minor improvements (like painting) made to your external walls. This may not apply if you live in a listed building or a conservation area.

Please check with your council if you're in any doubt. You will need planning permission if you live in a conservation area and you want to clad the outside of your home in:

  • Stone
  • Artificial stone
  • Pebble dash
  • Render
  • Timber
  • Plastic
  • Tiles
