On the whole, there is no need to apply for planning permission on garage conversions as long as the work is internal and you do not plan to make the building larger.

It's always best to check to see if there have been any of your development rights have been removed in which case, you'll have to have consent or permission especially if you live in a new housing development, listed building or conservation area.
