Paving your front garden

Since October 2008, you no longer need planning permission to pave your driveway so long as you use a permeable (or porous) surface like gravel, permeable concrete block paving or porous asphalt, or if rainwater is directed to a lawn or border to drain naturally.

If you use a more traditional, impermeable driveway that doesn't control rainwater run-off onto the roads and the area you plan to pave with this material is more than 5m2 then you will need planning permission.
