Ground source and water source heat pumps installation should fall within permitted development rights.

In addition, as soon as new standards and safeguards on noise pollution have come into effect, air source heat pumps will become permitted development.

Listed buildings and conservation areas follow different restrictions however so check your local policy before going ahead with any works.
