Windows and doors

Repairs, maintenance and minor improvements of your windows and doors does not require planning permission; neither does the insertion of windows, skylights or roof lights.

The same rules apply for new doors or the maintenance of existing doors - you won't need planning permission for this. A new bay window however, would be treated as an extension so you need to check the planning permission rules surrounding bay windows in this case.

If your council has made an Article 4 Direction, you may have to apply for planning permission as this withdraws some works from permitted development rights. Also, if you live in a listed building you'll need listed building consent for any significant internal or external works.
